Time to buy a new Tranny.

What does everyone think about this trans?

1998-2002 Dodge Cummins ATS transmission package 47RE :eBay Motors (item 300359090055 end time Nov-18-09 18:01:35 PST)

Its an ATS with a triple disk tq converter. Is there any better options out there for the same money? Has anyone ran this tranny before? I want all your opinions starting...NOW.

You may not like my opinion but you asked. If I had a truck with an automatic in it that was having problems I would swap in a manual trans. But remember this is only my opinion

Talking ats

Trannies just don't hold up! Compared to orthers, dtt ,Suncoast, Govend etc etc, plus friends of mine could not get any help from ats with problems!

i have their stage 3 in my 96 and im not happy i put it in in april and have had nothing but problems i drive it for a while and then it sits cause the tranny is messed up. i agree put a 5 speed in it you wont regret it i wish i would have. youll be changing lots of pressure sensors and selinoids. i have droped the pan 5 times and only put 200 miles maybe on the trans. issues nothing but issues. oh and thats $ in 400 tranny fluid also that ats wont refund me for.

i was going to get a ATS stage 6 for like 7500 i ended up getting a goerend with everything the ats had minus the (copilot/trans controller) for way cheaper. not to back ats up but i have seen them hold up to some abuse one in a 12sec ford and one in a 13sec common rail

Well, I don't know much about transmissions, but I'm set on getting one (eventually) for the '96 I just picked up. Thus far, I've heard nothing but good things about Goerend, and this thread is all I've read about ATS. It's a well-known fact that these auto transmissions are a b*tch, so I would definitely want to go with a company that is known for it's customer service (Goerend).

I will add that one thing with Goerand is they do not mass produce trans. Each trans is built to customer specs. If you need a trans tomorrow, Goerand is not the person to call. You will wait 1-2 weeks for your trans. If you want quality and service, then they are the person to call. Do a search on Goerand transmission problems and see how many pop up. Can things go bad with theirs, yes, without a doubt, it is mechanical and things do just break, but they don't go bad very often with theirs.

The one thing I see wrong with the first post is that you are not purchasing the trans straight from the builder. There is a middle man involved so that means if problems arise then you have to get past them to get to ATS to get problem resolved. Make sure warranty is good if put behind modded engines. Many rebuilders throw some fine print in there stating that if trans is used in a high performance or commercial application then warranty is void.
