Wastegate Question

After reading other posts about boost pressure I realized mine was pretty low. Gauge reads 1lb at 65mp/1750RPM and max I have seen is 20lbs during WOT. I checked my boots and plugged the line that goes from the AFC to the waste gate resulting in no change. Is it possible for the waste gate to be stuck in the open position causing low numbers? My egt's are at 600* @ 65mph and rise fast with the throttle. All mods are in sig, what so you guys think?

Thanks

I think that stock is set around 20lbs. I know this will not help but I would like to turn mine down, it is easy for me to hit 35lbs without trying and I do not want to blow my head gasket. I have a little elbow valve to control it but have no idea weather to turn the allen screw in or out to decrease the amount of boost

I would think that if you open the valve up by moving the allen screw out it'll decrease the psi. You could just back it most of the way out and see what that gets you.

Is 0-1 psi boost low on the freeway or normal? Also with the afc to waste gate blocked I thought the boost would increase?

I will try that. As far as freeway boost PSI all I can say is what mine is at and at 65mph It is closer to 3 or 4psi that is on flat ground of course.

Is there a direct relationship between low boost and increased egt's?

I chased low boost problems until I discovered my wastegate was partially open. Rather than try to adjust my frozen actuator rod, I loosened the two nuts on top of the wastgate bellows and slid in a 1/4" spacer. That really made it pull on the wastegate flapper arm. Increased my boost about 10 psi.......

I had the same problem on mine where the wastegate was stuck partially open and solved it by shoving a shim in it as you mentioned. I believe as you screw the allen head in on the boost elbow it slows the boost signal to the wastegate allowing you to build more boost before it starts to open. All the way in should be like having it plugged off completely.

Kinked line to the boost gauge can cause low readings too.

I'll look over the line. If it is kinked will straightening the line back out be ok or is it better to shorten the line? After a kink it'll usually cause a change to the inside diameter.

Problem with most boost gauge tubing is once it's kinked it's very hard to keep it from kinking again in the same place.
If you thread the small tubing though some larger tubing it will keep it from kinking again.

Installed new boost elbow and a 14cm exhaust housing w/ waste gate and still had low numbers so, I ended up pulling the gauge out of the pillar mount and located a kink that was a result of putting the gauge in the pod. Boost hit 35 after that.

Thanks for the information.
