Can't get to 3 k

When launching after about 2k i can't seem to get any higher without making my boost gauge which is 30 psi. I'm hearing I shouldn't be going any higher than that psi really on a stock turbo. I'm running a #0 plate almost full foward.

Got the same truck setup as this guy does on the video only i'm 4wd not 2wd. Does this make a big difference?

It seems if I try to go fast, the rpms don't go up quickly like his do. And before my rpms go up i hit full boost and i really don't wanna have to do a headgasket.... any insight?

Thanks!

Dunno. My truck hits 35psi easily at anything under 2k rpm, but my egt won't go over 1000deg no matter what I do short of pulling a load. I'm pretty sure my wastegate is toast. However, its doing a great job of cleaning up the soot; only a light haze at that egt and haulin @ss!

He definately has to have a GSK to run that kind of RPM. I have a $KGSK that I just installed 2 days ago, and with my current mods, it really goes through the RPM like crazy!!

Does the GSK kit make the boost spike easier?

I though he had a GSK. How much do these cost and how hard are they to install?

The GSK jst gives you more a more useable RPM range. Instead of the truck starting to defuel around 24oo RPM, it'll keep fueling on up to 3000 RPM or 4000RPM. Depends on which ones you go with. I bought mine from Cox Diesel Performance. They are Pacbrake springs. I paid $85 for them. Most of the others are anywhere from $120-$140. I installed them, and as long as you follow the directions, it's not bad at all. Just gotta make sure that the spring shims don't fdall into the bottom of the pump.

I really see bad things happening when I install this LOL...

I heard if you go to 4k springs than you will need to upgrade your valves to the 60 lb valves. Is this true?

And with a 4k kit is it safe to wind it all the way up to 4k on the rpm tach?

Seems like its crazy loud and screamy for a truck like this....

Probably gonna go with the 3k.... Good upgrade?

Hmm, that is my vid and my truck lmao. I do NOT have a GSK. It does defuel around 2700. I build just shy of 35psi but at 3000rpm I am at 22psi.. See if yours does 70 at 2100 like mine does, yours is probably a lot lower, my tires are only 245/75's causing it to act like it has 4.10's even though it has 3.54's. I can make a better movie just tell me what you want to see.

Yeah I'm guessing you do 70 around 1800 or so. Mine is topped out at about 100, I made a couple more vids of it showing how it doesnt have max fuel at 3000rpm and another crappy 0-60 run, I'll try and get them uploaded tonight.

There YouTube - 0-60 and top speed cummins 12v

Ive seen some threads in here about some adjustments to the mechanical governor components, to compensate for the wear and get it closer to the original defuel at 2600 and limit to 3000. Won't compete with a kit, but simpler and cheaper if you have time but not money.
