i have owned many diesels,this is my twelved one.and i bought a 94 12 valve on feb 10th 07.it runs perfect sounds good.but i read about the kdp on sat.so sunday something told to tear it apart ,and sure enough it was a good half inch out.so i orderd a kdp kit from t.s.t.my problem with cummins is why would they do a stupid thing like this dowel pin thing?also im also gonna have to check the fifth gear nut.it has 251600 miles on it.sorry this is so long thanks please reply with comments advice.thank you

Congrats on your purchased and welcome to the site. The KDP is there to hold the gear cases together, but you are right i have no idea why there would design it so it would most likley destroy a truck:fist: But good thing you are goin to fix it. And the 5th gear nut is also a real problem, You can fix this by putting a couple tack welds below the nut ont the bolt or you can purchase a nut with a set screw on it. But you are doing it right by fixing those problems first. If you have any questions just ask and good luck.

I checked out my 5th gear nut when I put the SB clutch in and the guy before me had put 2 set screws in it..guess it won't be coming off lol.

When I talked to a Cummins engineer several years ago his excuse for the kdp problem was that a batch of pins were a thousandth of an inch undersized.
Don't know that I believe it but have heard this a few times.
