Just purchased a 97 12v 4x4 with a 5 speed with 137k miles. Truck appears to be all stock with the exception of a small lift and some 35x12.5 tires.
anyway, truck starts spooling LIGHTLY around 1700-1800, but doesn't seem to make full boost til around 2400 and then you can feel the truck start to lose boost around 2800.
I had a buddy with a 94 12v 5 spd 2wd. His truck had 400k miles, stock turbo, 100 hp injectors, 0 fuel plate, pump mods galore, and 5 inch straight pipe. His truck made massive power, but started defueling at 2100rpms.
That is from his mods? That allows it to make power that low.
Not driving your truck and having no idea what "full boost" is to you I can only relate to my truck. It has been a very long time since it has been stock, just short of a million miles, so I can only go by distant memory. I could always take off in 2nd also, but with even the smallest trailer I use 1st to get the rpm up. Your big tires create the same load on the engine. Try using 1st gear for awhile and see if it seems better.
Sounds like a stock 12V to me too.. Again, read the beginner's thread. You can make just a few free modifications and wake it right up. (Get an EGT gauge first!)
While my relatively stock 12 valve 5 speed is no ball of fire, it makes all it's power under 2250ish rpms and does quite well I think. Turbo starts spooling good at around 1500 rpms.
This is exactly how my truck is. And its stock other than bumped fuel pressure and its on stock tires. No power till 1800 rpms and anything after 1/4 throttle is useless.
I was told my afc is bottoming out by 1/4 throttle and adjusting it will help.
I dont really wanna mess with my smoke screw seeing how that will just be a waste of MPG.
