So I just dropped the new TC and tranny back in but I forgot to prefill the TC. Am I screwed or will the fluid work it's way through once I finally get around to starting this thing?
Add 6 or 8 quarts. Then start the truck in neutral and add fluid until it shows full. Take it around the block, no higher than 2nd gear and go slow. Check and top off. Take it out again, get into 3rd. Check and top off. Get into 4th. Check/top off. Last time, get all the way into lockup. Then check and top off if necessary.
Keep an eye on the level for a couple days, just to be safe.
FWIW, I couldn't get my TC to accept more than a quart for the pre-fill, and spilled a bunch of it out trying to install the thing into the truck by myself. It turned out okay.
You don't have to fill it, start it up with ATF in the trans, foot on brake and go through all gears and recheck. Keep adding and rechecking till it's full, then drive. Slowly.
the tc is a pump. I agree with the way dauntless suggested
