The service manager in my shop has been doing pumps for 25+ years and he has seen a lot of pumps that have been cranked up to far and tried to push to much fuel through stock injectors resulting in hammered out camshafts. Really if you think about it a stock pump with put "B" amount of fuel through "C" sized injectors. You turn up your pump and your trying to put double "B" through the same sized injector. It is a lot easier on the pump to go with bigger injectors and go easier on the pump mods. I have heard that if your block and head are machined very flat and with a really good finish that they can hold 100psi +, but most machine shops are capable of being nearly that accurate. That being said there are a lot of old guys out there that are frightened by modifications and anything that isn't stock (or very close too) is stupid and a waste of time in they're opinion.

The only advantage i see using studs over bolts, is that you have to torque bolts higher to get the the desired torque at the threads. You lose torque on a bolt through it wanting to twist. A stud wont twist as you are just tightening the Nut. So if you torque a Stud and a Bolt to the same ftlbs you will have a bit less torque at the threads on the Bolt. And more you torque a bolt the more you fatigue it through the twisting of it. Thats my argument. I dont know if yall use competition diesel forum but Moose(one of the founders of the site). He has a Ford that Joe Hellmen did the CTD swap on it for him. the cummins in it is putting out around a 1000hp. He is using studs with the factory head gasket. He was telling me he will not use fire ring or oring head. He wanted the head gasket to be the weakest leak. He had a good point, If something fails because of pressure or boost the head gasket is the cheapest fix.

for those of you that have done a head job, or studs... how long will it take me for the first time to replace my head bolts with a set of new bolts from cummins? I called em the other day and it was just over $100 for all 26 of them or whatever it is and i figgure im probably better off with a set of new ones
