Search has showed cheap upgraded bolts from mcmaster-car, fastenal service and mighty diesel. What about head studs? Any cheaper alternatives to the arps? I would prefer studs over bolts because everything else being equal the studs would be stronger. The tension on studs is a vertical tension where as the bolts have torsional and vertical tension.
400 dollars for 26 studs is actually pretty reasonable, less than 16 dollars a stud. Not bad when considering the cost to heat treat and straighten them is pretty high. Extreme-Studs sells some nice head studs that are just as strong as the ARP New Age studs, but that still puts them at almost 700 dollars.
