Question Removed Fuel Plate and Lost Power HELP

Removed my fuel plate, and result was a loss in power. Put it back in and slid it forward and gained a lil bit. the plate is a #10. I was reading in a thread that you can just remove the plate. Can anyone help me to understand as to why I gained no power?? The afc is all stock and has not been "adjusted" yet, was really more curious as to what i would get outta removing the plate first. Im new to 12v's.......more of a common rail guy.

98 12v cummins
Yes the tranny will handle the power
Yes I have straight pipe
Yes I have pyrometer
Yes the turbo will support the fuel when I can obtain it

Thanks in advance!

Oh and sorry if this was already answered somewhere else, if you could just point me in the right direction. Thanks again

I can't particularly explain it. But if you took the plate out and tuned the afc just like if you tune the afc with the 10 plate you will get more power out of it. When i took my plate out it seemed to have more power till i hit fifth gear and it would just fall on it's face. But my afc we also tuned. So that makes a big difference

Ok what about the guys who gut the afc, and run no fuel plate?? Mine just had literally zero power when I removed it.

Did you slide your afc full forward when you took the plate out?

No not all the way forward, would that make a huge difference without the plate in?

Yes sir, it would make a huge difference plate or no plate.

The position of the afc housing has a very large impact on how the vehicle will run.

If mine is slid all the way back, it will hardly run. I now have it all the way forward with no plate, stock delivery valves and injectors as well as all the afc mods. Made 372/811 with a rough/baseline afc tune. After additional tuning, it's likely a hair over 400.

If you change the position of the AFC at all your preboost adjustment will be way off and need to be retuned for the new position. The preboost adjustment is very sensitive! 1/4 of turn from perfect to less than ideal. Moving the housing changes the preboost alot.

ok That was probably my issue bc when I re-installed the plate i made sure to slide the afc all the way forward.

Right now I have the #10 plate all the forward and the afc all the forward and noticed a difference.

So if i tune the afc and remove the fuel plate, slide the afc all the way forward, I should notice an additional difference from the #10 plate correct?

I Really Appreciate the help guys I know that this is probably an issue some of you guys feel like may be annoying questions and that I just need to search for it all.

to me with the way ive tuned my truck i prefer to run a plate. keeps you egts cool and you can tune it easier. and with mine no matter how i tuned it it would always just fall on its face when i got to top end. grind your plate to a 100 if you want a little more power. ive never ran a 10 plate so im not sure what the power differences are

yeah thats what i was thinking was a 100 to see how she reacted
Seems like a significant difference between it and the ten just by looking at them
