fueling issues???? or not

Ok guys so I picked up a 96 4x4 5 speed for $2000 its been a farm truck had 250000 miles with the bone stock exhaust still on it and not very well maintained... I pulled the fuel plate out and have the star wheel about as loose as i can get it and the smoke screw is screwed in pretty far.... I'm still not getting just a whole lot of smoke???? I'm not looking for smoke i really don't want it... But shouldn't it be smoking like a train with the way its tuned right now

Sounds like the fuel filter needs to be changed and the pre-screen in the fuel heater needs to be cleaned out.

Sounds like you have the pump set to kill at the moment so it must be a fuel pressure problem. If cleaning the pre screen and replacing the filter doesn't do anything check your fuel shutoff solenoid. It may be week limiting fuel flow to the pump

With the stock injectors and the stock turbo and GSK it shouldn't really ever pour black smoke unless you REALLY lug it. Not to say you don't have some things to work out, just saying.

? How do you figure you can't smoke hard with stock injectors and stock turbo? Because I know for a fact that his truck should be able to belch black till his turbo clears it.

We get that you're not looking for smoke, but you have stated an issue in which something is not normal. Your fuel pressure is low and filters is the first stop. Keep us updated

Prescreen is located in the heater housing. Do a search if you need pics.
