Well I got a call from scheids today and they are finally going to start building my engine tomorrow, (relize its been there sence March!!!). Well They wanted to know how i wanted it built. I need to try and save as much money as possible but I still want some good performance. I am having them throw in some 370's and it already has a bunch of pump mods and valve springs. So what would be a good gasket for me to throw on? If I end up keeping the truck i will add studs over the summer. i just need a gasket that will hold the boost my turbo puts out which is under or around 45-50. They want to put on a HX-35 "or they wont warrnety the work". Bassically They want to severly over charge me to make even more money, (I have a recipt that says $1100 for just the turbo and not any labor involved). So i will make they keep the 40 or put on their puller for 20 bucks less. Any way I have to call they guy first thing in the morning and ned to know what Is my best oiption for a gasket. Oh and it sounds like they didnt have to machine the head so any gasket will work. Thanks guys!

I would go with a .020 gasket. That will ultimately lower the compression a bit, and might give you a few ponies in the long run. Also, when you lower the compression on these trucks, you don't have to keep the head down as tight. (example, Terry Coppess' pull truck runs stock head bolts and makes some pretty good power) But, you can't go wrong with Haisley's or ARP studs.

Depend on how much boost you are going to run I would look at the stock gasket. I have a 20 over copper head gasket w/ dual o-rings & it put the injectors too far away from the bowl in the piston. When I first started running 370s years ago I found they worked best with the smallest copper gaskets. The head gasket moves the injector tip away just like the injectors seals do.
I was just readin on another forum about a just released or soon to be released composite head gasket for the marine application that is supposedly good to 60psi.
Built in fire rings n all.
Anybody else heard about this?

I told them to go with an aftermarket marine head gasket. They were going to get everything set up and see which will be better for my Engine. If I get to keep the truck i will add some 12mm studs. They tried to sell me on the 14mm but that just means more money they can suck out of me so I turned them down with a laugh.
Oh Ya I told them they were crooks to charge 1100 for a HX-35 and they said that is as cheep as I could find a turbo period. These guys are a hoot:fist:

The cometics are nice, but I'd rather have o-rings.
One of the biggest advantages to a marine (.010 or .020" over) headgasket is that it lowers cylender pressures. This helps for running high timing and/or lots of boost.
