ditching the 12cm gated housing for something larger is definitely going to be beneficial when trying to light a larger turbo behind it.

Depending on your goals and how you want the thing to drive, its not uncommon to see a set of small twins like a 35 and a 50/55

what are you using the truck for? the 35 as a small turbo in twins will limit you to 600hp but is good for a driver/tow rig.
being this is for a ford, do you have any experience with building twins in a ford? most twin kits are for Dodge's and wont usually fit. I ask because configuration may be a determining factor in turbo choices available as some are designed and rotate in opposite direction from others. Also some turbos (like S400's and HT3B's) are more common and easier to find parts for building twins.

i want a good driver/tow rig. I dont have any experience with twins but i'm sure i can hammer my way thru like i did the 12V swap into my ford. I'm also trying to do this on the cheap so if i use my current turbo then i would save a bunch.

On the cheap, you'll need to remove the HX35 and enlarge the WG passage and drill through the scroll divider to gate all 6 cylinders.
If you have an elbow on the back of the 35, you will need a different backing plate to make a hot pipe.
with a 12v, chances are, you have only one drain in the block. So you will need to put another in the pan for the big turbo.
The 3B is often cheaper to acquire and use then the S4. The BHT3B (garrett) model is the better of them. a 76 comp inducer and 26cm (you can go smaller like 23cm but bigger will add lag) ex. housing is what most use for the best street performance.
Be aware the 3B uses a T6i NOT a normal T6 flange, you can alter a T6 to work if you need to.
These turbos have a 5" exhaust outlet, you can step the pipe down to 4" right off the outlet if need be though.
I would search the conversion forum for other fummins w/twins to see pics and talk of what they did so you have a good grasp before diving in.
