Alright guy i need some help
I got a completely stock 97 with a 12v 5.9L Turbo diesel. I want to make my truck more powerful and sound awesome. I don't really want to spend very much money. Any easy free mods?

Check the tech section. Take your fuel plate out and slide AFC Forward.Theres tons more but you should invest in some guages first. Good Luck it gets expensive and hard to stop
yeah what he said. just do a search, this subject has been covered so many times. but pulling out your plate, sliding the afc forward, and cranking your starwheel in a few clicks will make it wanna drive through your stock clutch. especially with your 215 pump. you'll wanna get a boost elbow, from ebay or your local diesel perfomance shop.
before all get gauges, boost and pyro at least. no sense taking a chance on the truck you just bought. they'll be the most expensive thing for now. after that get a clutch.
if you dont understand some or all of what we're saying, read. theres more info on the net than you'll ever need.
that being said, the turbo and fuel system you have in there now should get you WELL north of 350hp before having to do anything major. well except for the clutch.

Not well north, but right about 350 is all you're going to get out of the stock turbo. And that would take slightly bigger injectors. Stock 215 injectors are NOT gonna get you to 350. Sorry...
But a Valair 350HP clutch is the most affordable (yet top notch) and will shift nice & smooth like a stock clutch, not all stiff like a dual-disc.

First off, what the heck is an "ariel screw"? And why would you wanna turn it "all the way"? Usually finding a "sweet spot" is preferable, unless you're either trying to make smoke or being lazy.
Don't waste your cash on 370 marine's. Hot crap..
His tranny is a 5-speed not an auto.
I just did the star wheel adjustment, ground my own fuel plate, and installed some 191 delivery valves and had all the injectors gone through balanced and shimmed for propper pop off. Truck runs like a champ, doesn't smoke bad and runs awesome with the timing set at 16.5° with a south bend OFE
