4K questions

So I bought a 4k kit off a buddy pretty cheap (It came from Pure diesel power, he went to 5k) and hopefully we're gonna get it in in a couple weeks. But I have some questions.

I'm gonna get valve springs at somepoint but I'm wondering how critical it would be to run with stock valve springs for a while?

Also who has good deals on valve springs?
and do I need new retainers?

I'm not looking to build this truck into alot of power, I'm just looking for more useable RPM's and some help when pulling a gooseneck. And I'm in college so the budget is always tight Any imput is helpful. Thanks

just put in the 3k springs for right now and save the smallest spring for down the road to upgrade to 4k...

right, but if im not mistaken, you can use the 4k kit as a 3k kit.... all you have to do is leave the smallest spring out the bunch and its a 3k kit... youll have the left over small springs for when your ready..

I didn't know that. Thanks. My buddy who I bought em off is gonna put them in for me so I'll ask him about that.

But even if I go to the full 4k will I be fine with my valve springs if I watch the RPMs?

Also any thoughts on timing? I was thinking 16.5ish.

you can put the 4k kit in without heavier valve springs.... just dont push the rpms past 3200. after that you can float a valve.

id just put the full 4k in cuz it will fuel harder then just the 3k kit.... unless you dont want the extra fueling

I was told the 4k would fuel harder too. Thats why I was gonna go ahead and go for its just my valve springs I'm worried about.
