Exclamation Can anyone answer P-7100 Questions

Hey guys I got a complete 96 12v motor with less than 100k on it given to me for FREE. I have good plans for this motor (sled puller). I took the pump off last night and it's a 885 (180hp) My question is can I put a 215 cam in it? I heard that the 215 cam is better. Also If yall can give me ANY input or tips about the pump please tell me. I'm going to start pulling it apart tomorrow to learn more about it.

You could put a 215 cam in it but its going to require tools that you definitely wont have in the garage!

lol, im bored at work... Tried cutting my finger off last week so im pretty much stuck with sitting infront of the computer.

Depending on what you plan on doing, their are some benefits to swapping the cams. Such as better barrel filling at high rpms, due to steeper angles ont he cam lobe which dont keep the plunger at the top as long.

Well Dave I'm wanting to build a high flow and high rev pump. I'm also just wanting to learn how to build a p7100. Also is there a book or manual on these pumps? That would really help.

If you can get your hands on one, Bosch does have books out there.

Problem is finding the tools to be able to do the teardown, then once you get over that hurdle your screwed unless you have the cash to build a test bench to dial that sucker in!

You have to have some very expensive equipment to pull a cam in a p7100 and should be done by a injection shop. The 180hp and 215hp pump that come on a dodge cummins have the same cam.

As far as what you can do with basic tools in the driveway, your limited to governor modifications and delivery valve swaps.

I think the point people are trying to get across is that you need a flow bench to do it. Well, I suppose you don't need one, unless you want it done right.
