Low boost problem....
I would like to know what other people are seeing for boost out of a 160 pump with no plate and everything slid forward and wastgate clamped off. i am seeing a max of 29 psi which seems very low to me. my buddy with his 98 12v with the same mods is seeing 45. i do realize he has a 215 pump but my boost numbers seem very low.

I can see 38 with my WHC1 holset with a 0 plate full forward. You could have a boost leak, a wategate flapper leak or an exhaust restriction........

that does seem a bit low ... like was said before, I'd check for boost leaks, but I'd also check your fuel pressure and/or fuel lines for any air leaks ... how's your egt's? If they aren't getting too hot with that setup, then I'd say you aren't getting enough fuel ...

my egts wont really get that hot even if i push it hard. maybe 1000 degrees. i will have to check for fuel and boost leaks i guess becauseit seems like i should have gained alot more power from these mods as well. thanks.

Where is a good place to start for checking boost and fuel leaks? Are there common problem areas or could it be anywhere?

For the boost leaks, the intercooler boots are usually the only places that leak. Inspect them closely, see if you can find any cuts or slices in them. As for the fuel leak, there are a few common leaks that can develop. One is the rubber hose behind the fuel filter.. It's a PITA to find though. Usually with a fuel leak, you'll find a drip. Let it idle on some concrete for an hour or so and see if anything turns up.

Well i did alot of playing around and testing yesterday to see if i could find any leaks. there was a small fuel leak to the pump after the filter but nothing that was terrible. fixed the leak and went to test everything out again. I was still only getting 29 psi of boost pressure. as i was out and about stilll testing and checking things i went to pass a guy on the highway and for the first time felt the TC lockup and away i went hitting 35 psi. with alot more messing around with i found out that you really have to push these older pickup go pedals alot harder than the newer ones. the whole time before i thought it was pinned it really wasn't and i just needed to add alittle more pressure to the pedal and she locks up everytime now as long as im going over 40 mph. i see a max of 39 psi at lockup and 34 psi with out. This sounds a bit better doesn't it!
