External Wastegate Options??

hey guys,

egt's(1600++) and boost(50psi++) are through the roof on the super s3, so......

i was kickin around the idea of tryin an external wastegate. i'm probly gonna need one in the future (with the twins), so i figured i might as well get one comin since i'm not real sure on my twin setup yet. and it will give a little time to figure them out a bit...

i see a few guys usin the 44mm tial units, but i am just not real sure what i'm lookin for yet.

are they all adjustable for boost pressures??
do i have to buy different springs for different boost settings??

any info/input will be greatly appreciated..thanks.

You can buy different spring to regulate opening pressures. Or you can use you boost elbow on your turbo to fine tune it. Use it the same way you would regulate your internal gate, but route your hose to your external.

ok...so with the diaphragm type, i can just use it as i would the internal gate. ahh...it all makes cents now. lol

but arent the diaphragm types been known to wear out due to the heat and psi of the diesel application? are the spring type gates better or worse than the diaphragm types?

and some of u guys runnin externals...how big is big enough? bigger the better? 38mm, 44mm..50mm???

I found a tial 40mm at a sweet deal of $100, so I couldnt pass it up. I think it should be alright as long as you tune it right. You might not be able to get the most out of a set up, but it sure will be better than no gate. Ive never heard of someone "needing" larger than a 44mm gate

Agreed to that. But when it came from a friends 240sx sr20, who bought it from tial, i wasnt worried.

But that does bring up a good point. If you go on TiAL's web site, they show how to tell a fake from a genuine piece
