Cummins Upgrades?

I am completely new to the cummins motor. I plan on putting a 12v into a 2003 gmc 2500. my question is, what are some good upgrades i can do to give the motor more power, like new parts or just tweeking the stock motor. also on the upgraded parts, could yall please tell me some good brands i can look into as well?

thanks

you can turn up the pump and get upwards of 125hp witha fuel plate, but you also gotta do ther est like studs and guages before thats reached, stick money in the tranny tho, that cummins will eat it

ok i have a couple questions about those. i have been reading a lot about the fuel plate, but what do all the numbers in front of them mean? like i have seen #10's and i think even #100's?, what do the numbers mean? also, i am going to put in a manual, probably a nv4500, do i just need to upgrade the clutch or do i need to find stronger internals as well. I am shooting for the 500-600 hp range when this project is all said and done

Fuel plate profiles image by DrEvilx on Photobucket

this will clear up the fuel plate question, basically they all have different ramps that the arm moves up and down controlling the fuel the picture in the link says it all also every thing you will ever need to know

well the best thing to do is to learn by taking it apart, i dont know how many times ive pulled the afc and tweaked with my fuel plate or something else....if you have been reading like you say it will be pretty straight forward.

when i was tweaking with my truck i read a ton. all that reading for some simple loosening and tightening.

while the motor is out probly should have your head studded and 0-ringed.

ok i got a few more questions....

1) i can see the physical difference, what what is the difference in performance between the #0 and #100 plate?

2) im shooting for 500-600 hp, so far here are some things i think i might need. tell me if im going in the right direction here....

4000 rom gov spring kit
60 lb valve springs
fuel plate
delivery valves
injectors
lift pump?
64/71 trubo
head studs

did i leave anything off or can i take anything off this list.

also what size injectors and dv's should i look into? what upgrades should be made to the nv4500 to handle this power? this truck probably wont tow much. its basically gonna be my new toy to race and just horse around in

dual disk clutch from southbend and a 1 3/8's input shaft should hold 600 hp....

along with studs do 0-rings

You can hit more than 600 hp with some 5x18's...the trans will hold up fine with a good clutch in it. If I were you I would put a 66 mm turbo on it instead of a 64 in case you decide to ever pull it...you'll have a legal 2.6 puller with close to 700 hp
