need help tuning pump

so i installed my 0 plate and the truck has insanely horrible bottom end. it hits really hard at about 2300 rpm i have the plate about 3/4 of the way forward and my star wheel is about 2 turns from the spring being loose. the whole blowing black smoke thing was cool for a while but its getting old and now i just want power. another strange thing the truck does is when start out in a high gear and the truck almost stalls it will blow a huge thick cloud of grayish black smoke and it doesn't stop till about 2400 rpm or till i let off. its so thick that the whole street disappears

Tighten up the starwheel and back out the pre-boost screw. Mine did the same thing as you describe. Was pretty cool when I first got the truck then it started to get embarrassing. Most people think that a truck smoking means it is a piece. Read up on pump tuning here and compD. I have it set pretty good right now, very little smoke and pulls great down low. I am having trouble with the topend now. Think I need to adjust timing!

Where is the AFC housing set? Have you flipped the washers in the housing?

Sounds like the arm is getting hung up under the plate. If she doesnt start to come alive till 2400? And is a real dog down low, I would pull the afc and see where the arm contacts the plate

You take the back cover off your afc and there is two washers sandwiching the afc diaphragm. One has a lip the ther doesnt. If you reverse these washers, you get full travel of the afc lever, some people also grind the angle of the afc foot off and make it flat, in order to achieve full travel.

that has got to be the worst way to get full rack

bout the only thing i could think of that is worse would be to gut the afc

take it apart...study it....figure out how it works....and modify accordingly

or take it to someone that knows whats up and pay them to mod it

the afc is the brain for your fuel curve

gutting the afc for a street driven truck is about as smart as removing your brain

(the one between your ears)_

Just info gathered from others on the site. Just thought I would make it easier for others, since most cant grasp the concept of the search feature this site has

why do you make it sound as if it is going to be the end of the world? i just ground the curve off my foot and nothing bad has come of it.

and some of us cant spend 200 bucks to have someone do the same thing we can do for FREE.
waste of money
