Turbine Housing ?s

When a housing is mesured in cm do the sizes compare to the turbo they are on at all?? I though that 16cm was 16cm weather it was on a HX35,HX40 or HX60.... just as examples.. But I read on a site the other day that a 14cm housing on a HX40 is the same as a 16cm housing on a HX35 is there any truth to this??

I don't know for sure, but I always thought that it is just a measurement of the area of the inside of the exhaust ports. So, it seems to me that are wouldn't change no matter what turbo it is for. Just my opinion.

^^^

Thats what i thought too...

Maybe what they meant by that was a 14cm turbine housing on an hx40 would spool/flow similar to a 16cm housing on an hx35...?

Thats what I am trying to figure out I agree with you 2 that I though a 16 was a 16 no matter what turbo size. It just refers the the internal volume of the housing it what I thought anyway.

The only place I had seen it was on that site and now I cant find it to read it agian an make sure I read it right even thoe I read it 3 or 4 times befor to make sure I was reading it right at that time If that is the way it is then instead of having a 16cm housing I have a 18cm cause I have a 16cm HX40 housing on my HX35

You just have a hx40 with a 16cm housing. That is the best spooling hx40 available. A hx35 housing will not fit on a hx40 FWIW.

Ok I now see that you have an hx35 with a hx40 16cm housing, correct?
I think that the 40 housing will act bigger because the hole in the center of it is bigger and has more clearance to the turbine wheel. FWIW a hx35 has a 58mm turbine wheel and a hx40 has a 65mm turbine wheel.

Al the info I found says the HX35 has a 60mm and the HX40 has a 65mm. but I did not find this info till after I installed it and started diggin to see why it was so laggy before i was told they were the same size. so now I am in dearch of a HX40 turbine wheel or better yet a HX40 that I can afford.

When I was researching I found what I started this tread asking and was wondering if there is any valitity to it or not I have seen many things on other sites that are just compleatly wrong but could not decide on this one.

each series of turbo is available in MANY configurations, including different size wheels on both the turbine and compressor.

In all the reading I have done i have found many differant com wheel sizes for both the HX35 and HX40 but have only found one turbine wheel for each for the HT60 I have found may diff combinations of comp and turbine wheels. I'm not saying you are wrong that Is just what I have found.
