Running No Plate

It came to my attention that there are many myths concerning pump failures and the rack hanging while using no fuel plate. First off this is false, there are many reasons for a rack to stick or a pump failure, but not using a fuel plate is not one of them. The following pictures show an RQV-K governor being disassembled. As you can see there is no "pin" that can break due to not running a fuel plate.

Thanks Don.

Ive always thought that if people could see how these pumps work and could see inside one, we'd have less of those threads.

When running without a fuel plate the governor lever will still contact the AFC lever. If the lever is modified for extended travel the limiting factor will be the rack plug no matter it being the stock 2000 plug or the 2095 plug which is 2mm deeper.

Front rack stop.

Rear rack linkage.

As far as a runaway condition, the sliding bolt(pic#3 post#1) pulls the governor lever back limiting RPM. There is no way to "over extend" the rack also since either the AFC lever or the rack plug limit rack travel.

This is slightly off topic, but what is the best way to verify that you are getting full rack travel when modifying the AFC lever?

The best way to verify full travel is measuring rack travel through the front rack plug with the AFC installed, the pump needs to be removed to accomplish this.

Already took out the plate this morning for my first mod since I don't have any access to a bench grinder yet.
