The output seal on my steering box gave up on me, and now it shoots fluid out when I turn the wheel. Consiquently, the brakes are very weak, too. Has anyone ever had any luck replacing the seal without removing the box from the truck? It looks simple enough, but we all know how that assumption can go. I already have the parts, but I'm just looking for some input before the next step.

The reason your brakes are weak is probably because your truck has a hydro boost on it. It takes place of a brake booster. When you hit the brakes, the fluid pressure you lose while turning the wheel is needed to make the brakes easier to press. I ve never replaced the seal either for fear of messing up worse than it already is. I'd just go with a rebuilt unit too. It costs more, but you know its right when you're done!!
