No speedo after 5spd swap

Ok I just completed my 5spd on my 1997 cummins. While doing the swap I removed the gauge cluster to put a peice of electrical tape over the p r n d indicator in the middle of the gauges while doing that I wiped the faces of all the gauges off moving the needles a little to clean them. After getting the truck running no speedo, so I replaced the speedo sensor on the transfer case still no gauges so I pulled the dash back apart and everything is all connected but still no speedo. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Make sure you speed sensor is indexed properly and engaging the output shaft.

how do you do that? The sensor is held in by a fork that thats pushed down by a 13mm bolt and is sealed by an o-ring l dont see how the depth of the gear could really change but l could try it if you could explain how to check it.

The gear on the end of the sensor inside the transfer case is offset. It needs to be installed so the gear is "up" engaging the splines on the shaft inside the transfer case. Remove it, turn it around and look at it and you will see what I'm saying. If memory serves me correct, the plug should be at the top of the sensor when it is installed in the case.
