Not your average fuel gauge problem....

After reading on here I have determined my fuel gauge is having a different problem as most. It reads full ALL the time. Even with the key off.

Guess I will try to unplug the sending unit and see what happens. I am guessing it will not make a difference but I will try it. Anyone have any other words of advice? Maybe been in this situation before?

Any leads on a new gauge if this one proves to be bad? Been thinking about a salvage yard. Wonder if a gasser one would be the same, since they may have a different size tank? Any aftermarket ones recomended?

Thanks
Jim

Never heard of anyone replacing just the gauge itself, don't think it's possible.
You have to replace the entire gauge cluster, only the diesel version will work.

Yes you can replace each gauge individuality you have to take the cluster apart. kinda of a pain , but i have switched out several gauges. Good time to clean all the dust out of there also.

Wonder if it is even worth trying to unhook the sender?

From what I have read if it is unhooked it should read empty and completing the circuit makes it show full right?

Wonder what would make it show full when the key is off? The other gauges go down with the key off.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Jim

I would say check all your connections first. 99% of all electrical problems are a bad connections. You should be able to get to the wires under the bed cant remember sorry my trucks are flatbeds much easier to get to fuel tank.
