Fuel gauge stuck on full

Hi all;

I bought this truck a couple of weeks ago. Everything except the front vents worked fine - more on that later. Yesterday, for some reason, the fuel gauge went to full. When I turn the truck off and take out the key it goes to empty, but goes right back up to full when I start again. I'm thinking an electrical issue? But does it sound familiar to anyone?

Now, with the front vents; I traced it to a broken and very brittle vacuum line running along the firewall and into the cab on the passenger side. I temporarily fixed it with some tubing but I know it'll break again soon. Is there a good place to buy this rigid vacuum tubing? There's no Dodge dealer in town anymore and all of the parts store folks look at me funny when I ask about hard vacuum line.

Pretty much stock because I'm afraid of upcoming smog rules for diesels here in the PRK.

For the fuel guage I have had that happen to mine when I fill the tank to full. It stays up there for a while but will eventually come back to normal.

Stuck fuel gauge

Had the same problem when I purchased my truck. Gauge showed full when the key was turned on. Had to drop the tank and replace fuel "sending unit" on the side of the fuel module. Think it cost around 40$-50$ from the dealer. Not a big deal...just a couple of hours of time.

Sometimes you can fix the stuck on full problem by kicking or hitting the tank with rubber mallet.
Some senders tend to get stuck on full when people fill the tank to the brim.

So I went out to the desert today and drove on some nice washboard dirt roads. That seemed to do the trick. Fuel gauge is now back to reading whatever it thinks the fuel level is.

Thanks for the replies.
