16" wheel question

When I bought my 97 it had 17" wheels from a newer model. Looking at pictures on here they seem to be a third generation wheel. They have a terribly agresssive mud tire size 285/70r17. Been thinking about new rubber and doing my research. With the 4.10s I could use more speed with lower RPMs. Figured taller and skinier tire.

That seems to be very hard to find in a 17". Soooo question is if I looked for some 16" wheels what years would fit? Any posibilities of Ferd or Cheby wheels fiting? Clearance issues?

I would even consider trading someone if they were close enough to me. I am in north central WV.

The dodge bolt pattern is 8 on 6.5", its the same as 3/4&1 ton chevys and pre-super duty fords (<98).

16" wheels come stock on these trucks and will fit just fine.

Careful with some of the chevy rims. The center section on a lot of them dont have a large enough center holes for the dodge hub.

on the super duty ford rims

I guess I better take mine off then

Maybe you used a crazy backspacing or something, but mine fit just fine, and the last set of cast 16s I sold to a guy with an 02 that still fit just fine.

Ooops, missed the some part.

How much backspacing did they have?
I'm not sure what would make them not fit, A LOT of people run cast 16s on earlier 2nd gens with drum brakes.

as said above the polished aluminum rims from 00-02 wont fit the earlier trucks due to a different drum design, so as long as you go with the chrome steel wheels you'll be good to go. i would sell you mine but i havent gotten new rims yet and have the same size mud tires on my 16 anyways. the chrome steel rims are cheap, or check ebay i have found plenty of nice alum 16 inch rims for our trucks for around 500 shipped and many different styles if you want something other than a stock wheel
