2002 Not starting

I just got a 2002 2500 with an automatic. Starts sometimes and runs great. Other times it takes forever to start and runs bad for a few minutes. The lift pump has been replaced with a holley blue frame mounted. You can hear it running when the key is on. Fuel filter changed. Any ideas? Is there a on off solenoid on this model? Thanks

Yeah do the key trick and tell us what codes show up. That will help in diagnosing the truck.

Also sounds like you need to make sure you are getting fuel to the VP44. So you can crack the #1 injector line or the VP banjo bolt and then bump the starter to send fuel towards it and make sure you get as steady stream. That will help to make sure you are getting fuel where needed and narrow down possible problems.

If you are getting good fuel from the lift pump to VP then it could possibly be an injector or maybe VP issue. Just my thoughts, but once again check for codes and let us know what you get

followed by no codes. So back to square one. If the injector pump was bad would it continue to run most of the time? This is a starting issue. Once started it never stops and runs fine. Although on starts that take awhile it will act up for a couple of minutes.

Sounds alot like my issue, but once it starts and acts up it never clears up unless restarted. I'd love to know what fixes it for you. BTW, mine has a new injection pump and it still does this.

It shouldn't need 15psi to idle, should it? Mine was idling at 8psi.....well sometimes.

update on problem. Seems to be starting better now, however usually on a cold start after warming up I will take off and the turbo doesn't kick in. After about a mile it will start running fine and continue to run fine. Any thoughts on what that it could be now? It was doing similar before, now the only difference is that it seems to be starting better.

Check to make sure all you connections on the fuel ines are tight and not sucking air, I put a good used vp on and it did the same thing, so i went to a new one, same thing, after 3 months in the garage and a lot of frustration i found a broken clamp that was sucking just enough air so it would not start. Make sure wheen you do the key trick you let it finish, there will be ecu done and pcu done and then back to the odometer.
