Possible fuel theft

Last night when I got home, I had over a tank of fuel. This morning the gauge read empty. We have some massive speed bumps by my house and I hit them pretty hard thinking the sending unit was just stuck but that didn't work. I stopped and got two gallons to make it to work and of course I was mad all day. I left my money at home and only brought 15 dollars to work with me. I had to drive home and get the money and went straight to the store and got 10 gallons and the gauge didn.t move. It does move slightly when I turn the key on. Does this happen nornally? If I was robbed, could the hose from the transfer or siphon pump have bent the fuel level sending unit? I have a book and it only shows the unit for the gas engine and obviously I don't have a pump in the tank. Are there any checks to make without having to remove the tank?

Its all good, better to find you have a broken sending unit rather than someone stealing liquid gold from underneath your truck.

What year truck? Don't see anything in your signature and the 1500 in your name makes me wonder if its a 96 or not.

If it is a 96, if the fuse was blown, you'd have no temp or oil pressure gauge. The blue wire going to the cluster is for the fuel gauge. It goes through 2 other connectors back to the fuel pump module, and its a blue wire with orange stripe at the tank. It could be a bad ground on the other side of the sensor even. The black wire with a white stripe on the tank is the ground for this sensor. You could try jumping this wire to ground and seeing if you get your gauge to move.

theres a check ball in the filler neck to prevent leakage in a rollover. i dont see how anyone can get around that.
on my 97 i get fuel by running a line from the fuel filter house water removal line to a can and run the truck to pump fuel into can. i think someone would have to pierce your tank get fuel. that would suck if they did get fuel from you. you may also check the connection on top of tank i had my lines rust there and i noticed alot of corrosion from road grime.
