Question ball joint?

I noticed that my passenger side tire has excessive wear on the outside edge on just one side of the tire I had the truck aligned about six months ago. I also notice that sometimes when I am turning I hear a clanking noise, My thoughts are ball joints but before I go out buy new ball joints then spend a day full of cursing , banging my knuckles, followed by more cursing , and of course beer drinking mixed in while replacing them that I wouldn't be wasting my time. So am I correct in assuming its the ball joints or is there other possible problems. Any and all comments are welcome.

Check to see if it's that, just get someone to wiggle the steering wheel a bit and take a look at the joints, if the knuckle moves but the not the tire (and you will see this) the balljoints have excessive play.....time to replace.

Hey I'm in San Antonio. I replaced mine on my 03 at 120,000 miles. I jacked up the front wheel and lifted up and down on it. If it makes a clank sound there bad. What area of S.A are you in. I'm around 1604 & Bandera.
