Electronic Throttle Control light on

Hello,

I was out driving today after I had installed my EGR delete kit yesterday and my ETC light came on in the dash and my throttle dropped out as well as engine speed. This is a real problem, has anyone else had this problem with 07.5 6.7 liter Cummins engines after they have installed the delete kit for the cooler and the EGR valve? The only component not plugged in is the valve. The bypass valve is still plugged in and I did remove the flapper valve from the throttle valve assembly before the EGR valve. To my understanding this light is just for the throttle pedal sensor, I unplugged the pedal and the light went into a blink but driving it comes on as a steady on. I imagine it is blinking unplugged because of the open circuit but is steady on while driving because of a signal error. Can anyone help or state if this is something that occurs after the EGR cooler/valve delete kit has been installed. Has this been a problem with 07.5-08 Dodge trucks?

Please advise

Are you using a tuner to clear codes or are you driving with them on? Most people report having this sort of problem after shutting the truck down and restarting it quickly, like shutting it down in a drive through or stopping in at home to pick something up. The truck must be shut all the way off and have the key removed from the ignition between starts or it will throw the EFT light on. Is this something you can recall doing or anything of the like? please fill in your signature so we know what mods you have done to your truck.

I am not using a tuner, I have only performed the EGR and EGR cooler delete so far. I have had the ETC light come on when I did start the engine too quickly but now it is coming on after driving at a steady state of throttle for more than 3-5 minutes. I think the sensor has just failed, it comes on and is a steady on when it does. I can shut off the truck and restart and the light clears until I drive again for a few minutes. When it occurs the truck looses throttle input and there is no engine speed change until I go beyond a certain point for about 30 seconds and then it will take off but the light never goes out until I shut the engine down. SO I am wondering if this is a week point in the vehicle or if this is a result of the modifications. I would fill out my signature but I have not figured out how yet. Sorry.

Thanks for the help and reply.

For the signature, look below the big cumminsforum logo at the top of the page about an inch for User CP in there you can edit signature check email and do all sorts of goodies.

Depending on how hard/easy your butterfly valve came out, it is possible that it was damaged then. There is a feedback loop in that sensor that tells the engine its current position. If things get knocked or banged around to much when that is being removed then it is possible it would damage the fragile circuit and set a code. You will also want to check and recheck that all your gaskets are in good shape, and that everything its tightened all the way down. Sometimes boost leaks that may be almost undetectable can cause funny codes too.

The flapper valve came out ok, I had to drill one screw but it slid right out after. I ran it around for about 1 hour after this and with out any issues. On Sunday I ran the same route and within just a few minutes the light came on. What is odd though is that it will come on at steady state throttle at about 10-15% throttle when cruising in 6th gear at about 50-55 mph. When I push the throttle through this point it takes right off without any hesitation. I can't imagine that it would have run fine for so long the day before but the next day within 3 minutes of running would log this fault. It seems like the throttle pedal potentiometer has a dead spot in it. It occured again today as well within the same amount of time. The truck is still under warranty so hopefully it is just the TPS. Other wise I may have to reinstall of the garbage that I took off just to have this taken care of.

Thanks for the input.

Drove home tonight after being out of town and the half hour trip was perfect. No ETC light and no throttle drop out. The only thing I can figure is that this occurs when in active regeneration mode. I wonder if installing the butterfly will help with the regen process when active. I am thinking it is worse with out the valve because of the extra oxygen in the exhaust stream and the O2 sensor is picking up this and it is messing with the active regen process. I am going to drive it a bit with the flapper out and see how often it is going to bother so I can figure out my regen process, then I will reinstall it and make a case on whether or not the regen process is better or if it is the same. THis way I will know and everyone else will know if you have to do the DPF delete when you install the EGR/ EGR cooler delete.

I have reinstalled my butterfly valve today and will keep you all posted as to the results. SO far after reinstalling there were no performance effects and the ETC light did not come on. Also the turbo charger nozzle ring did not close on its own. I expect that the P0106 fault was caused by too high of a pressure in the intake while at low engine speed and that the O2 was too rich in the exhaust during active regen. Will know more tomorrow.

Well all is well with the butterfly valve back in place. So if you can live with the ETC light coming on every other day take the valve plate out. Otherwise leave it in when you perform the deletes and there will be no issues.
