Intank lift fuel pump do I have one?

Hello,

Yes, I am a newbie.

How do I tell if there is a intank pump in my 2004.5?

The original should be on the back side of the filter housing right? all I see are two fuel lines there.

If I do have a intank pump I should hear it right?

Just turn the ignition on without running the truck and you should hear the fuel pump come on for a few seconds. If it sounds like it is in the tank then you have your answer if it sounds like it coming from up front on the motor then you also have your answer. Hope this helps

The only thing I hear is a low clicking after I bump it for about a min. To me it sounds like it is coming from around the Turbo. I don't hear anything from the tank. But I don't see anything behind the fuel filter housing.

It was running fine until I changed the fuel filter.

I have removed the filter and bumped it to see if anything is pumping in. Got nothing.

The lift pump should be in the tank on your truck.

I should hear it in the tank then right?

How was the truck running before and not now if the intank pump is dead?

How can I be sure it is dead?

Thanks for your help

Get any codes? cycle the key three times from off to on (but do not start)...you should see codes were the odometer is. If your LP is dead you will get codes.

I'm having the same issue on my 2004.5. In-tank pump appears to be dead. Before I spend $300+ on new pump (OEM or better), can I just hook 12V & ground directly to pump to check? Does anyone know if the in-tank pump is a variable speed, therefore variable voltage supply? I am getting around 2.5V at the connector. Seems like it should be more unless the computer is telling the pump not to pump...

Check out Home | Dodge Body Builder's Guide for some very helpful wiring diagrams/connector pin-outs/etc. Since we have the 2004.5, we may have to go back and forth between the 2004 and the 2005 diagrams. From all I can tell, Dodge switched to the in-tank pump sometime in 2004. It is easy to tell by looking at the fuel filter housing. Filter mounted lift pumps are mounted on the firewall side of the fuel filter and kind of look like a gas "fuel" filter (about 2-3" in diameter and 5-6" long). The fuel line from the in-tank pump is connected directly to the fuel filter housing with a banjo bolt.

Please help! Diesel is down to $3.879, only $0.20 above regular. I want to drive my truck again, soon...

Error Codes For 2003+ 3rd Gen Trucks

P0628 Fuel Pump Relay Circuit Low, or Fuel Lift Pump Control Circuit Low

P0524 Oil Pressure Too Low

P2509 ECM/PCM Power Input Signal Intermittent

OBD-II DTC Database - Chrysler Trouble Codes

P1757 Governor Pressure Above 3 PSI When Request Is 0 PSI

Ok p1757 is a trans code I think and I think it means your governor on your trans is shot and you need a new one...

628 I think your LP is dead

How are your oil levels? I don't know what could be the cause of ECM code...

Glad to hear you got yours running again!

After lots of prayers, I got mine going also.

Turns out that mine had been converted to the in-tank pump, presumably by a dealer. Whoever did the conversion did a pretty good job of making it look like a factory installed option.

Bottom line on mine was the 15A fuse between the battery and the firewall mounted relay. The fuse wasn't blown, it was eaten away (corroded) by battery acid. The fuse holder was on top of the battery and was not water tight! There was voltage on both sides, just not the same. It was corroded enough to not let enough current through to drive the pump.

Glad I didn't tow to the dealer for that!
