HELP!! Fuel Pressure problems

I need some help guys, my fuel pressure on my Edge moniter has been reading 0 for a while and I thought it was a bad sensor. I called Edge and they sent me a new one. Problem is it still reads 0psi. Called Edge again, guy on the line gave me a few things to do and determined that it was not the Edge and imformed me that my fuel pressure was indeed 0psi. I thought that my truck wouldn't be able to run lilke that? Anyway, I am going to put a machanical gauge on it and see what it reads as soon as I get home. My question is, What could be causing this? The guy at Edge said that my FASS filters may be clogged? He said that my truck was starving for fuel, but I doesnt seem to be still runs strong, only difference is my EGTs and engine temp have been a little hotter than normal. Any other ideas?

thanks,

I would send a PM to Diesel-Dan as he is the specialist when it comes to the FASS systems.
Good luck.

Your truck will indeed run at 0 psi. What happens is the VP 44 actually acts as a vacuum and draws its own fuel when it is not supplied. Run it too long that way and your VP will be toast. I'm suprised it isn't already!

check and see if your pump is even working at all... if the filters were that clogged it would make me think, how could the vp44 have enough suction to pull any fuel at all through packed filters?

Pull the fuel line off up front, place it in a bucket, have someone cycle the system.

sorry, but can you explain that a little more? The front, the motor side or the front of the pump? And what will this show me?

If you by passed the oem filter, pull the line off from the VP44 that comes from the Fass pump. Dan always suggest the bucket test to see what the pump is doing.

Ok... quick question. If my FASS is indeed not pumping, and my VP is indeed pulling the needed fuel to it, and will soon become toast.... would it be wise to go ahead and replace the VP knowing its rep. I go to school 250 miles away from home and don't want it to go out between the two... or while I'm at school for that matter. From what I hear its just at matter of time before the VP goes out anyway. Kinda like a preventive maintance thing.... and on that note, is the "Hot Rod" VP worth the money?

It's a lot of money to replace a VP before it's time...then again getting stuck is no picnic. Depending on how long you have had 0psi, you may want to just do it now.
I have a second suggestion though... remove the fitting that holds the front fuel line to the VP. This is the line that returns un-needed fuel back to the tank (not the one that comes from the filter housing). If that valve sticks open then you get a false 0psi at the gauge. I have begun to see quite a few of these check valves go bad especially when an after market pump is used and they are delivering more than the recommended presure to the VP. The test proceedure is pretty simple... push a regulated amount of air to the hollow end of the fitting. If at say 9 to 10 psi it holds air that's good. At 15-16 psi it should pass air. If it passes air at 9-10 psi or wont pass air at 15t o 16psi then replace the fitting. It's only about $30 from the dealer. I had a friend that thought his new VP was defective and the $30 valve fixed his truck... now he wonders if it was really a bad VP to begin with. Its worth the try and a hell of a lot cheeper than a new VP. Good Luck... Chris
