Please Help With Crank Sensor
My new Dodge has an apparent crank sensor failure: codes 11, 12, and no tach, AC or apparently charging either. I went and got one from the parts store and it doesn't match what I have. What I believe is my crank sensor is on the passenger side of the vehicle, pointed downward at the balancer and has a round connector behind the top radiator hose. I have seen pix with the sensor under the starter, on the drivers side, etc... It's gotta be a different year thing. My sensor also bolts onto the front and the one they gave me bolts downwards and has a oval connector. I wonder if I'm gonna have this trouble with NAPA too. They were closed today. I have Monday off and I really need to get this working if possible. Please help.

i had a no name chip and it needed a crank sensor input. it was on passengerside front and very difficult to remove it had a red tab you had to slide sideways to the left before you could remove the plug. I think two wire, white plug and once you slid the red tab you push a clip down and then you could remove it.. Once you have removed it i would just try cleaning it. elc contact cleaner and re assemble. there is one also just above that but its higer you could try cleaning that one also. you need a 19mm wrench to take the ground wire off for the batt. it just makes life eisier.

It was a bad crank sensor, NAPA had it listed as a vehicle speed sensor, Cummins didn't have it in stock (2 weeks), Advance had it totally wrong part listed, AutoZone didn't offer it at all, Chrysler got it overnight with a 10% discount because Cummins was so much cheaper for the same part. Set it to .050 airgap and everything works great. It was on front drivers side of crank and is technically not a crank sensor but an ESS (engine speed sensor). It differs from later years in that it reports one pulse per revolution instead of 60.
