2002 6spd 70,000 mile all stock.Help... Please!
I just came across this website after trying to google my problem. My truck just started acting funny on the way home tonight. When driving thru town at a steady pace, and starting to accelerate it will not respond to added throttle, then 10-15 seconds later it hits (like turning on a light switch)? It happened several times on the way home, but if I did drop a gear it would raise the rpm's and it would take right off. I'm no mechanic, and need any help you can give. I have no check engine lights or so on. Thanks

Definately sounds like the dead pedal syndrome. Try the APPS sensor reset.

I had the same problem with my 02. Luckily it was under warrenty yet. I was pretty sure it was the vp44 injection pump. My dealer started with the lift pump, I went to pick it up and it acted up right away so they ended up replacing the vp44. No problems in the last 2 years.

if you've only got 70k, the motor is still under warranty.... so that would cover lift pump, injection pump.... right?

Sorry, I was wrong on the mileage..it is at 80,000. I keep getting extended service plans sent in the mail..guess i should have jumped on it. I'm taking it out for a drive in a few and hope its still fine. If not, where is the best/cheapest place to buy a vp44? What kind of $ are we talking....

There are two options that are noteworthy; One is the hot rod vp which gives you an extra 100 hp or so. Performs just like doing 100 hp sticks, I think. The other thing to consider is that the heat cycles somehow cause a problem with the solder to the circuit board in the vp. Something about the solder crystallizing and losing a good contact. Apparently UPS got special ones built using some other kind of solder to deal with this problem. Most rebuilders just test them, they don't fix this. I can't remember the builder that addresses this issue, but it might be worth considering. The other thing that goes out is a sleeve and pin hogs out when the lp pressure is too low for too long. I think all the rebuilders replace these parts, but the company that does the solder upgrade replaces the aluminum parts with heat treated steel. If I can find the flier I printed, I'll post the manufacturer. My problem when I was looking at this turned out to be lift pump pressure too high (16 psi). I think the rebuilds range from $1200 to $2500 or so. I am sure there are folks on here with better info, though.
