Transmission Oil all over
My brother is 3 hours away from here in my dads 96 cummins with a auto tranny bone stock. They were pulling up a hill with the camper on, and had tranny oil shooting out of somewhere. The problem is is he is not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination and I was wondering if anyone has had this problem. I think probably a oil cooler line blew but not sure what to think. Please let me know if you think this is an easy or hard fix. I warned my dad to by a manual tranny but he didn't listen.

You say it's a 1996 truck, so depending on the condition of the tranny, it could be the front seal, the one that is on the torque converter, usually when that goes, it's because of the pump, and the whole tranny needs a rebuild. Cross your fingers and hope that it isn't it, because if it is, it'll probably have to be towed.

transmission oil all over
It's the cooler lines where they go into the transmission, in 96 dodge used a plastic retaining clip to hold the line into the fitting. It's usually the outlet line clip that fails as it gets hotter. There is an aftermarket fitting you can get to replace them both.

Thanks guys I am going to call him and have him look at the lines and the plastic fittings. That makes sense and hopfully all it is. Where do you buy the aftermarket kit? Maybe Geno's? Let me know thanks again for your responses.
