Exclamation Won't Start

I have a 94 cummins that won't start unless I pump the primer I thought but today I checked the fuel selonoid and it does not pull up when the key is on, but you can pull it up and it will stay until you turn the key off. I checked the blut wire and it has juice. Once I get it started i can stop and start it all day, but leave it set awhile and no start.

This is the wrong section for your question. It should be in either 911 or 2nd gen powertrain.

It may be the rubber boot on the shutdown solenoid. The boot on my 96 turned gummy and caused the same symptoms. I took the solenoid off, removed the boot, cleaned and oiled the solenoid and slug, and reinstalled the solenoid without a boot. It has worked flawlessly for months now. I originally intended to get a new boot but I don't see much point in that now.

The start solenoid will not pull up with the key on. It has to be turned to start to pull up. Look here for things that could be wrong: Joe G's fuel system writeup

I gathered from this that the solenoid pulls itself up on starts successive to the initial manual assist. That is the way mine did with the gummy boot. I guess warm gum was not a problem but cold gum was.
