Lift pump Question

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel. The Truck at some point was convert to the Intank lift pump. It is starting to Fail. I have new External old Style pump. Will the External pump pull thru the one on the Tank or am I going to need to drop the tank and Remove it?

Will the Carter pump Support my Truck's fuel needs?

i believe you will have to remove it, but if you do that you might as well do a draw straw at the same time. Chad

You'll need to drop the tank and remove the pump. Mount the new pump on the frame rail near the tank, NOT on the side of the engine. Install a pressure guage while you are at it..

You can install the Vulcan "Drawstraw II" and just plug the old pickup port. This fix will remove the obstruction caused by the in tank pump from the supply line, let you use the factory return line setup and keep your fuel gauge working.

As for installation, 3 hours or so. Some guys drop the tank, some remove the bed.
