Hollow popping, low oil pressure at idle, high EGTs... help!
i have a 1993 W350 - 12v Cummins w/5spd manual. the engine supposedly has around 100k on it. yesterday i downshifted and went around a turn. when i got back on the throttle a little bit, the truck started to sound kinda strange. almost a little bit like an old John Deere hit-or-miss diesel. at the next stoplight, my oil pressure was only at 20psi, but would quickly climb to the 40-45psi range when revved. i drove the truck to the church (about 2 more miles) and left it there overnight. this morning, i did an oil/filter change. when i started the truck again, oil pressure was at 40psi while idling, but the truck was still making the strange sound. the sound was coming from the exhaust pipe and the intake. i tried to drive the truck, but a few miles later, i was getting 20psi at idle, and in gears 3, 4 and 5, my EGTs were over 1000 (they generally stay in the 600-700 range). also, there was more smoke coming from the exhaust pipe than usual, and i seemed to be down on power. a little more history on the truck... during the winter, i changed the head gasket. after putting the truck back together, i tried to start the truck and ended up with some bent pushrods, resulting in a visit to a mechanic. all the pushrods are new. the truck has the KDP fix installed. until about a week ago, i hadnt started the truck in several months, but in the last few days, ive driven the truck around 200 miles without issue. whats going on with my truck?
