Hi all!!
I have blue smoke at idle and light acceleration and lots of black smoke when I pull hard or up a hill. This situation is new to the truck as I have had almost no smoke from the exhaust before this happened. Please help, this is very troublesome for me as this is my daily driver now and don't want to damage anything.

thanks , I checked the intercooler last night, as I also thought boost. There is one clamp that is stripped. I am going to replace it today. Is it possible that it would cause that much smoke?
If I punch it and stay on the throttle hard, I hear popping noises and it puffs out the exhaust in shots....is this backfiring?

Kinda ina diesel way sometimes which on a 12v is a sign of something but i cant remember if its pump timing or something else. havent messed witha lot of those. mite try a search, cuz i remember someone else with a similiar issue.

If it's backfiring you might be out of base timing.
Does the engine misfire at idle or above idle?
I'm assuming your truck is a 12V motor. Having said that, I think it could possibly be your fuel pump diaphragm going bad. If you can get a vacuum/pressure tester you can find out if it's any good.
I pulled the injectors on the weekend and they had a bit of carbon on all of the tips. I tore them down and did an overnight soak in a solvent then cleaned the tips well and blew them out with compressed air and cleaning fluid to check the spray pattern. Then reassembled them and reinstalled them in the truck and NO MORE SMOKE. A small puff of black at start up then virtually no smoke at all during operation. With the exception of when I romp on it of course. It feels like a different truck now, rock steady idle and seems a bit better on fuel after 500 km on it.
Thankyou everyone for the help and suggestions. I used the link from Mopar1973Man's Dodge Cummins Articles - Home Page and folled the instructions for removal-dissassembly-and reassembly.
