PUKING UP OIL AT -22F (-30c) when starting

I just went to South Carolina and Picked up a new to me 91 Cummins 250 2WD. I drove it to kentucky, then Michagan, then Sudbury Ontario. it was +50F in SC when I left, and -22F in Sudbury. The truck drove great, and the motor is like new. lots of compression does not use oil. Last night was the first night it sat in cold like this. went to start it this morning and it started, but slowly. got some coffee and came back 10 min later and there are about 2 cups of oil on the ground under the block, a third of the way back on the passanger side. There was a antifreeze dripping too. Antifreeze in the Resovuir was not frozen, nor was the radiator. I drove her 5 miles to feed my horses, and let it run there. No new oil in front of the barn. I drove it back home and let it run in the drive for 20 minutes. no new lake of oil. I had an 89 cummins do something similar to me last year, but it never burned any oil and worked fine after that. Is this a problem with the cummins in the cold? There is NO BLOCK HEATER! and the oil was cold and THICK. But where would it have been coming from? and WHY? I have to haul 2000 miles with my truck in the next week so I'm a bit concerned. not to mention I don't want to kill a Mint Condition Motor. This MOtor REALLY IS LIKE NEW- Never been Worked. ANY WORDS OF WISDOM WELCOME

Your metal cooling lines maybe getting rusty or your hoses could be leaking alittle, check your clamps. Just my .02's. Thanks Steve B.

A oil leak on pass side can only be your oil filter or turbo feed or drain line. Check these to make sure none are loose. Again just my .02's. Thanks Steve B.

since you have no block heater you might want to get a magnetic pan heater that you can slap on your oil pan I also wonder if the oil came out of the crank case vent but I really don't know much about the1st gens

Check your antifreeze for freshness and PH. Old antifreeze that has become acidic will make snowcones in the oil cooler and can deform the oil cooler cover enough to allow temporary oil leakage. Generally if this happens it is a good idea to pull the cooler and install new gaskets.

When you go to new antifreeze, use a propylene glycol antifreeze such as Amsoil, or the waterless propylene glycol coolant from EvansCool. Stay away from that new OEM orange crap at any cost, it turns acidic in a diesel in just a few months.

The other place to check is the drain hose for the turbo. If it gets old it will develop cracks and then moisture from the hot oil will condense in the metal connector at the bottom, freeze the hole shut at night, and block the oil drain. If the hose is soft or swollen, pick up a new orange silicone compound one from either Cummins or Detroit Diesel. Detroit's will be half the cost, and is the exact same hose!

I don't know how they came in the first gen's, my '93 had a block heater, but my '06 has a heater just no cord. I would think this would be a big concern with those temps. It was 6 degrees Fahrenheit this morning here, too cold after returning from San Diego, and mine started like a champ. The cable is on order. Check the freeze plugs behind the oil filter and see if yours is there, minus cord.
