That's a solid point. The only reason I stopped using siped mudders for winters was the cost. They don't last half as long as a normal winter tire, and cost about twice as much. But they do work great, and still look cool.
Otherwise a mud tire is just not built for slippery stuff. The lugs are too big, the tire is too wide, and it just doesn't work well. The ideal ice tire is skinny with lots of sipes.
