They bought a great big unit that had two large 750D luberfiner filters with the gypsum in them to take out the acids. The oil from the filters was not used, that on a 12V 1710 Cummins still left about 25 gallons of oil. It was pumped threw the first filter hot out of the engine for about 20 min, them mixed with fuel out of the tank about 50/50 and circulated for an hour threw the second filter, then back into the tank, it had heaters to keep the mix flowing properly. Their was a great amount of patting themselves on the back as they were going to save 1/3 of a days fuel and didn't have to dispose of the waist oil. The trucks, 850 Kenworths had huge fuel tanks, they got the oil changed every 45 working days. and greased every 15. About 30 days into this we started to have injector problems and these were the very early PT injectors, just a plunger in a sleeve with orifices, about 300 lbs injection pressure. They started to seize up. We also did this in the 849 Kenworths with 12V 71's Dry blocks they lasted about the same time and when they seize the rack sticks and the motor wants to stay at the same power out-put as it has when they seize, "possible run away". They all had automatics so the driver just pulled the emergency shut down and called a mechanic. I made a fortune in overtime as there were a lot of companies that did the same thing, in the area, there was a shortage of injectors so you only did the ones the were sticking. the clearances now are a whole lot tighter and the pressures a hundred times higher. The injectors in a Cat Huey is 700 dollars and about 300 labour, I don't know what the cheap they use in a Power stroke costs but it sure seems not to be very cost effective to me. Unless of course I do the work then go for it.
You have addressed some of my concerns. You obviously
have the experience that few of us have.
I just wonder with all the filtration that you did with the
big filter units that you had back it the day, how fine was the end result. Were they getting the used oil filtered down to 1 micron or less??
Just curious...

Thanks....
