A donor Dodge with a Cummins and 4x4 5speed would be the easiest way to make a swap. Then you would put the engine, trans, T-case in. The engine only needs a key on wire for the FSS to make it run.

Best bet would be to buy a complete truck and sell what you don't use but me I would swap everything I could .

.

anyone else have info on this? I'm in the same situation right now with a 1st gen 350 with a gas engine. is the existing trans and transfer case not strong enough for a 1st gen 5.9? also can the existing fuel tank and delivery system be used with diesel? thanks all

No your Gasser Trans will not work as for fuel tank it is just easier to swap everything out to diesel that way thing's Plug right back into place .

AFIK 318 were never used in 1 tons. So if it is a 1 ton it should have an NP205 like the diesels or it would have an NP208 like the lighter trucks.

The gas trans won't fit a diesel.

Could use the gaser fuel tank but the lines need rerouted, the gasser fuel lines are on the passenger side rail (carbed), diesels are on the left, pretty sure FI gasser are too but you can't use the gasser electric fuel pump without a regulator.

yeah I'm starting to think this truck isn't a 1 ton. we just got it on a trade and the fender said power ram 350 custom, got under it and the diff cover is shaped to dana 44 and an 8 lug with a d60 in the rear, it's a 91. I've searched online for info on the model but came up empty. will that axle hold the 5.9?

It probably depends on what your going to do with the truck if the D60 will hold up. I have a D61 in my truck but it's just my DD.
