Oil Capacity??

I am getting ready to do my first oil change on my 12v and since I dont have the manual or anything I just want to be sure I put the correct amount of oil in it, including the filter.

So by the chart it says it holds 12.5 quarts so 13 quarts would be good, I put 13 quarts in my 24v but I wasnt sure that the 12v was the same, I figured it was but I would rather play it safe!!!!

I just buy 3 gallons, fill the filter, put it on. Dump the rest in the crank case and go for another 5K mi.

Pre-filling helps prevent dry start-ups, and with a quart to fill up, it's a pretty long dry start.

Now, it has been argued that today's oils are of a high enough quality to make pre-filling unnecessary, and then you add the remote possibility of getting some gunk in the clean side of the filter as you're filling it. To each his own. I put about half a quart in mine, making absolutely sure nothing gets in the clean side of the filter, then screw it on.

I always prefill when I can. Some of my big stuff have huge filters on them. Some are close to a gallon. It helps get the oil going sooner. And I always dump 3 gallons in my b's also.

My question is....why does it state that the engine takes a litre more with an auto over the 5 speed? Different rads?

it takes extra COOLANT because the autos have a liquid to liquid transmission cooler.
