getrag 5spd owners i have a question

can you take off in your truck in second gear like the newer models???? i am askin because i am lookingt into buying a trans swap from a guy the truck runs and drives how ever when trying to put into gear from a stand still i can go into 1st but not 2 nd . are they set up differently??? TIA for any help/advice

should be able to go into any gear from a stop...most people start in 2nd unloaded

try pumping clutch, then shift

or pump clutch, shift to 3rd and then back to 2nd

Ditto what jamo90ram said. I normally start in 2nd, unless i'm towing, off-road, on a big hill, or something. Maybe the clutch isn't disengaging QUITE all the way, and could use some adjustin?

yep i agree with all these guy's make sure your getting full clutch relise.
and i do the same with my 98 i know its gas but first is way to low.
personly i float gears in all the sticks ive ever had, so coming to a stop i put it in second before i push the clutch that way when the light goes i dont have to wait for the imput shaft to slow down

thanks a lot guys i tried all of the above most every cummins i have owned but this 1st gen has been stick. i have had 3 autos out of 10 cummins trucks
