hard to get in gear?

I have the stock getrag in my truck and when I try to put my truck in fear at a dead stop it won't go in at all. Nine times out of ten I gotta roll and most of them times I have to put it in other gears to get it in the gear I want. it goes into gear bueatifully goin down the road but its reallt aggrivating at a stand still. Is this normal?

Mine does the same thing. I'm not sure what the fix is, but mine will go into gear better if I downshift through every gear. Mine won't go into gear if I put it in neutral and roll to a stop, say from 4th, unless once stopped I go to 3rd then 2nd. I can't go from like 4th straight into 2nd. I don't know if you downshift or not when you stop, but if you don't try it and maybe it will at least make the truck more driveable until you can get it fixed.

I'd guess your synchros are nearly shot unless the problem is predominantly 1st (I don't think it has a synchro for that gear; same shaft as reverse). Possible slave cylinder but I'd bet synchros.

Before pushing the stick into gear, I let the clutch pedal out a bit just for a second, then push it back down, to get the shafts/gears turning inside the trans. Then it slides into gear much more easily.

Mine did that before I took out the 90 wt and put in 15-40
The 1 qt extra and the 90 wt is too much for the syncros and gears IMHO
This is assumming that the clutch is not warped and the disc is releasing.

My Getrag's 2nd and 4th gears are fine but it has a notchy 3rd gear, especially when cold. But I would agree with Zskibo about having worn synchros. I need to do a drain and refill and see if that makes any difference.
