rear end questions

im new to the forum and new to dodge trucks...sorry if questions seem silly. i have a 92 350 4x4 dually. the rear end just went out. i was wondering what cost to expect for it to get rebuilt. also wondering about cost for the whole thing used. i know theres probably more info needed to answer these questions just not sure what. its got the 3.5.4 ratio and is an automatic transmission. any advice would be much appreciated. i think i could replace the rear end myself with some help...just trying to figure out the cost comparison and options. thanks.

rearends are relatively easy to set up your self (even if you've never done it before) if you have moderate mechanical skills. to have one rebuilt is going to be 800 to 1200. if everything is distroyed except the housing here is a very close cost for parts.
new carrier 200 ( which i you probably don't need ).
new r&p 350
install kit 100
gauge to set backlash 30
total 700 and you might get parts cheaper if you shop around.

you can buy a used one much cheaper but take someone with you who knows about rearends. you need to take the cover off and look at the teeth on both the r and p gears. if you buy a used on i would buy an install kit ( new bearings and seals ) and put them in.

thanks for the numbers yall. been looking for a rear end locally for the last couple of days and not turning up anything...guess ill post on here and see if anyone has one or knows where to look. is the gear ratio the only thing to match up when looking? the 250s and 350s are the same right? just more leaf springs on the 350? thanks again for the cost estimates.

pete99 look around for a sec gen diff, the spring pads should be the same and the gearing will be the same the only difference is the e brake cable but there should be a way to get it to work, plus on the cool side the drums are on the out side of the hub so brake service is 100% easier, I have a srw diff from a 98 Im installing this comming summer in mine once the ratio is changed
