Fuel Filter

Hi, I got a 92 and had my truck run rough at idle a couple days ago (sounded like it was running on three cylinders for about 30 seconds then it recovered) when it was cold out. Thought I would change the fuel filter since I never did it and its been 2 years since I bought the truck. After I changed it it was fine but then the next morning it ran rough, so i thought I should bleed the lines, got that done, this morning it did the same thing, and I noticed I am getting about one drip a minute out of the water drain on the filter, makes me think the water drain valve isnt seatting properly and letting air into the system overnight.

Is this possible? anyone else had this problem? I wish I could put a proper plug in there insted of the existing valve.

Yes it is possible. There is another filter that replaces the one we have with the water in fuel sensor. That filer is just a rounded bottom type of filter.

I'll have to look around for the number.

I run the fleetguard FF215 on my 1990, don't think there's a difference between the 89-93's. Just has a drain valve and no sensor, I have never had problems with these and like them because they are a bigger filter

Is the Fleetguard drain valev a push/pull one like the original or is it a plug type that you would use a wrench on?

Philip if you can find that number that would be great I am thinkin of adding water seperator, off one of my parts cruisers, on the frame.

i hought i was having the same problem with my drain valve and then after watching it while it ran, i found out it was coming from the fuel heater sensor above the filter so i wasted money on buying a new drain valve/water senso and then buying a filter w/o a sensor

see:
Can find fuel leak? Somewhere right above fuel filter
