80's chevy w/cummins conv. HELP!

Was wondering if it would be cheaper to build a crew cab short bed 4x4 chevy & drop in a cummins or just buy a dodge w/one already running i only have $3,500 budget for now i think i could build the truck cheap but not sure on converting it over i have a line on a '92 2500 dodge drivetrain complete from frame down for $1,500 i know the adapter plate for a 400 chevy is $799, flywheel is $400. Was thinking i would just use complete drivetrain except frame would this work & how much money would it take to get it running?

sounds like it would work with the dodge drivetrain just some cross member work and i think the motor sits pretty high due to the oil pan do some searching on hear there a few threads about it, if your dead set on chevy trans {i dont recommend 400T no od our motors only turn 2800 rpm stock ~64 mph w 3.54's}look in scrap yards for four cyl cummins with chevy adapter plate, ebay has one for ~$500 inclds flexplate, starter, wave ring, and adapter plate, says for 3.3or3.9 cummins but bolts up the same
