Well. 100 bucks is a steal for a HX-40.

The hx40 will have a TRUE 4 inch exhaust outlet compared to your hx35's 3 inch outlet so a new 4" downpipe will have to be aquired (they sell them)

The hx35 has a 56mm compressor

the hx40 should have a 60mm compressor= more air/lower egt

Depending on what exhaust housing you have on your hx35 now, the hx40 will probably spool slower becuase the compressor is so much bigger.
Things to look for-

Count the blades on the compressor wheel. Just so you know what you have

did it come off a 5.9 cummins? it has to have the right flange to mount to exh. manifold

What size exhaust housing is on it? its stamped on the back, if it has a 18cm it will be slow spooling and it will not light too quick, A 16cm was also offered on the hx40 but was kinda rare and is what you want for quick spooling and more fun.

Set the wastegate at 40 psi, anything over that your dangering your headgasket and the turbo itself might grenade in the high 40's and 50's PSI wise.

Hope this helped. BUY IT is all i can say. to answer your first question, yes you will see performance gains, and this turbo is good up to the 400 HP range and is capable of much more. The HX40 also has a sweeeeet sound as well. You have to figure in buying or just making a 4 inch downpipe to the $100 your getting the turbo for.

,Brandon

If that HX40 has the T3 flange 16cm housing on it. It will spool just like your HX35 will. I saw no difference in spoolup going from a HX35/16 to my current HX40/16. You will see a couple of PSI drop stepping up in size. The EGt's will be lower. Your pushing more air.

If you see a boost increase it means you were bottled up by that 3" exhaust outlet out of the turbo.

The map range on a HX40 is 45 PSI. I would set the wastegate for 40 and leave it.

thanks for the replys the turbo is coming of a 2000 dodge cummins with 100hp injectors fass fuel system and 5inch exhaust and he says its got the 16cm with the banks big head wastegate and he also said it would bolt up to my 3 inch down pipe someting about a reducer? in the turbo housing but even if it doesent fit with the 3 inch downpipe i can resell or buy the 4inch downpipe

If it has an exhaust housing on it with a 3" outlet it might actually be a 35/40 hybrid. Or it just has some weird reducer like the guy says. If it has the 4" outlet you would be better off to get a 4" down pipe to go with it instead of using the adapter it's supposed to have.

Just upgrade to a 4 inch downpipe, buy a first gen 4" downpipe from Stan's Headers, standard and custom high performance header designs for automotive and marine engines. no use runninga biig turbo and then hooking it back up to the factory restricted downpipe.

You will be fine with the 40. Like the others have said, just set the gate @40psi.

how do you set the gate on an hx35/hx40? i thought they were factory set or unadjustable, allen head or changing a spring like on an aftermarket unit? very interested to hear the answer

Cut off the reducer and band clamp the DP right to the exhaust.

I really don't think you should hook the 3" DP up to the hx40,, its kinda a waste of the 4 inch oulet that the hx40 has, you won't see as much of an egt drop on the bottom end and it wont spool up as quick as a 4 inch dp would.

Thumbs down Hx 40

I would be worried about a HX 40 for a 100.00
